Everyone could benefit from a little floating in life, but there are a few groups of individuals who will benefit most profoundly — key among them? Pregnant women! Imagine the extra weight expectant mothers carry being taken away in seconds; achey joints & muscles releived & stress floating away as you enter a flotation tank at Pause. There is little research out there specifically on floating while pregnant, however the several known benefits of floating in general are only amplified for two & can very well play an important role in a healthy preganancy.

Relieving Physical Discomfort

Perhaps the most obvious perk of floating while floating is the physical relief. Resting in a weightless environment, allowing your body to relax, suspended in a serene ambiance is a moment that all expectant mothers deserve to expereince. Removing the physical stress extra weight puts on the body provides immediate relief. While it has been deemed safe to float on your back, some do reccomend that if you’re in your third trimester, you float in the prone position — facedown, elbows on the bottom of the tank & chin on your hands.

Better Sleep & Stress Relief

Almost any pregnant woman out there will tell you that as your body changes to carry a baby, so do your sleeping patterns. Many expectant mothers suffer from disrupted sleep & sometimes, insomnia. Floating has been shown to help those struggling with these disruptions get a better night’s sleep. In addition, stress relief from floating has been researched & demonstrated in numerous scientific studies & there is no time more important to invest in stress reduction than during pregnancy. Research has shown that a mother’s stress level during pregnancy can have an affect on her baby’s development in infancy & beyond.

Magnesium for Prenatal Wellness

Women are advised to increase their intake of magnesium during preganacy as the mineral is crucial for many biological functions. It happens to also be a crucial component to create buoyancy in Pause float tanks. Epsom salt can be absorbed through the skin & may help ensure pregnant women are meeting their reccomended intake.

The “Mirror Effect”

There is a little known experience we talk about in the float community known as the “mirror affect”. Women who are expecting have described the practice of floating while pregnant as an incredible bonding experience. As if her & her baby are one, both floating in suspended animation. Weightless & with no one but you & your baby to listen to & feel eachother — is truly something you must feel for yourself!

Before Your First Float

While most doctors have no concern with pregnant women floating during the second & third trimester, we always reccomend checking with him or her before your first visit. Also, take the utmost care when getting in & out of the tank as surfaces are slippery & your balance may be slightly off. As always, our knowledgable staff is here to support & guide you along the way.
